History of Urban Putt: From San Francisco to San Jose

Urban Putt officially opened its doors in San Jose on February 29, 2024, a memorable leap day celebration. Founded by Steve Fox, the first Urban Putt location opened in San Francisco in 2014 and expanded to Denver in 2019. Both locations quickly became fan favorites, receiving 4.5+ star ratings. In 2023, Funlab, an Australian company that operates Holey Moley mini-golf courses, purchased the San Francisco and Denver locations, rebranding them as Holey Moley. The San Jose location, however, remains the last original Urban Putt location, featuring the most ambitious golf hole designs and creative décor to date.

The Vision Behind Urban Putt: A Dream Realized by Steve Fox

Steve Fox, the visionary behind Urban Putt, spent 35 years in journalism with prestigious outlets like Omni magazine, CNET, and PC World. After decades in the industry, he decided to pursue his dream of opening an indoor mini-golf restaurant and bar. The first Urban Putt in San Francisco was a huge risk that paid off, ultimately leading to the opening of the Denver location in 2019. Though both locations were significantly impacted by COVID-19, Steve embraced the challenge and sold the locations to Funlab in 2023. However, he was determined to bring one more massive project to life—Urban Putt San Jose. This new location features 13,000 square feet of innovation, featuring the craziest and most audacious mini-golf holes ever created.
