About The Tamale Story

Like many entrepreneurs, our journey began with uncertainty and a bit of cluelessness, but with a lot of heart and passion. We are a family, first and foremost—a group of dreamers, doers, and go-getters. We never imagined that our path would lead us here, but it’s been a wild ride, full of challenges and rewards. The one thing that has always held us together is our love and dedication to one person: Mama. And let’s be honest, when Mama wants something, Mama gets it.

A Family of Dreamers with Big Aspirations

When we first started, each of us had our own personal ambitions. We weren’t just looking to work in a tamale shop—we were pursuing bigger dreams. Some of us had aspirations to become a Doula, others to fight for justice as a Human Rights Attorney, and one of us even dreamed of stepping into the boxing ring. At the time, we balanced our individual goals with school, paying for college, and starting families of our own. However, life has a way of changing plans, and that’s exactly what happened when Mama’s tamales started taking off.

The Tamale Empire Begins

What started as a small, local business quickly became a demand we couldn’t ignore. Mama’s delicious tamales gained popularity fast, and before we knew it, the orders started piling up. We were swamped with work, and it became clear that something needed to change. The family was being pulled in multiple directions, but Mama needed us more than ever. It was a pivotal moment—one where we had to make a choice. We decided to put our individual goals on hold and fully embrace the family business. The road ahead was uncertain, and the challenges were many, but we chose to take the less-traveled path and focus on our future together.

Choosing Family and Building the Business

Though we had our own dreams and ambitions, the importance of family came first. It wasn’t always easy, and we didn’t have all the answers, but we were committed to making it work. We dived headfirst into the business, unsure of what the future would hold but determined to make it a success. Our hard work, resilience, and a lot of teamwork allowed us to keep pushing forward. And eventually, our dedication paid off in ways we couldn’t have predicted. We earned the title of “Best Tamales” 8 times, which was a huge validation of our efforts. We’ve built something we can all be proud of, together.

It’s not just about the tamales—it’s about what they represent. Our tamales are a symbol of our family’s journey, our sacrifices, and our commitment to one another.
