A Passion for Animals That Led to a Dream Business

The roots of The Perfect Pooch NYC go back to founder Leeland Allen, who moved to New York City in 2000 to pursue a career in the performing arts. However, it was not until she started working part-time as a dog walker for one of Manhattan’s oldest walking agencies that she found true peace and fulfillment. Leeland had grown up on a small farm in New Hampshire, where she was surrounded by a variety of animals. This upbringing gave her a deep love and respect for animals, and it was this passion that eventually led her to start her own business in 2005, turning her part-time dog-walking job into the foundation for what would become The Perfect Pooch NYC.

A Husband and Wife Team Dedicated to Pets

In 2011, Leeland’s life took another turn when she met Franco Barbara, a native Brooklynite who shared her love for animals. Franco, a true animal enthusiast, often had his Pekingese, Charlie, by his side, and he quickly became an important part of Leeland’s journey. After they married in 2014, they decided to join forces and run The Perfect Pooch NYC together. Their shared love for animals and commitment to high-quality pet care made them an ideal team.
