Description
Freedom Church
In 2003, a small, diverse group of men and women with a shared vision came together to form what would become Freedom Church. The church’s journey began humbly in a home where they gathered weekly for prayer and Bible study. With their passion for the Word and community, they quickly grew and expanded their meetings to Monday nights. Eventually, they transitioned to Sunday services, marking a new chapter for the church. Initially named Morning Star Church of Greater Philadelphia, the church received significant support from two sister churches: Morning Star New York (now Every Nation New York City) and Grace Covenant Church in the Greater Washington D.C. area. These partnerships helped lay the foundation for the church’s growth.
Leadership Under David and Kathleen Estes (2006-2011)
In 2006, David Estes, along with his wife Kathleen, stepped in as the first full-time pastors of Freedom Church. Their leadership played a pivotal role in guiding the church to new levels of growth, both spiritually and numerically. Under their direction, Freedom Church began to take shape as a vibrant and dynamic community. One of the most notable aspects of their leadership was the creation of a dynamic music ministry. This music team became a signature element of the church, contributing significantly to its unique identity.
A New Leadership Era (2011)
By late 2010, David and Kathleen Estes began to sense that the time had come for them to pass the leadership of Freedom Church on to the next generation. In June 2011, they answered the call to serve at their sister church in Washington D.C., transitioning the leadership of Freedom Church to Gabe and Jennifer Bouch. The Bouchs stepped into the role of lead pastors, bringing fresh vision and energy to the church.
Expansion and Growth: New Locations (2011-2021)
In October 2011, Freedom Church took a bold step by moving its Sunday services to the historic Prince Theater in Philadelphia (now the Philadelphia Film Center). This move marked a significant milestone for the church, allowing them to reach hundreds of people who were eager to experience the vibrant worship and ministry that Freedom Church was known for. The new location helped further solidify Freedom Church’s presence in the city, and the congregation continued to grow.
The growth of the church soon led to the opening of an additional location in Cherry Hill, NJ, to accommodate the increasing number of people attending services. This expansion allowed Freedom Church to extend its reach to the neighboring community in southern New Jersey, providing a space for people to experience God’s love and grace.
One Church, Two Locations: A Unified Mission
Today, Freedom Church is proud to operate as one church in two locations, with campuses in both Philadelphia and Merchantville. This model allows the church to serve a diverse group of people while maintaining a unified mission and vision. Both campuses continue to be places where individuals and families can connect with God, grow in faith, and be a part of a dynamic church family.
Looking to the Future: The Best is Yet to Come
As Freedom Church continues to grow and expand, the leadership and congregation remain excited about what God has in store for the future. With a history rooted in faith and community, the church is poised for even greater impact. The best is yet to come, and Freedom Church looks forward to the continued story of growth, transformation, and outreach. The journey is ongoing, and the church is committed to fulfilling its mission of spreading the message of freedom and hope to all who seek it.
