The First Unitarian Universalist Church of San Diego has been offering a unique voice of freedom, reason, and tolerance to the community since 1873. With two campuses—one in Hillcrest and another in South Bay—we continue to serve the San Diego area, fostering a welcoming environment for individuals from all walks of life. Our church is not just a place of worship, but also a center for conversation, community-building, and spiritual growth.

Serving San Diego with Two Campuses

Hillcrest Campus

Our main location in the vibrant Hillcrest neighborhood serves as the heart of our congregation. It is here that we host our Sunday services, programs, and gatherings that reflect our mission of inclusivity and intellectual freedom.

South Bay Campus

Located in Chula Vista, our South Bay campus provides a welcoming space for those in the southern regions of San Diego. We offer a similar variety of services and programs to connect, inspire, and build community.

A Place of Free Thought and Open Inquiry

At First UU, we do not dictate what you must believe. Instead, we invite you to join in a conversation about the meaning of life, love, and service. Our approach is rooted in intellectual freedom, and we encourage our members to ask life’s big questions.

We explore the answers through the wisdom traditions of humanity, drawing from Jewish and Christian sources, as well as from the world’s other religions, nature, science, and modern thought. Together, we find inspiration in the diverse ways people search for truth and meaning.

Journey Toward Wholeness

As part of the Unitarian Universalist Association’s initiative, Journey Toward Wholeness (JTW), our church is committed to anti-racism and anti-oppression work. This ongoing effort helps us create a more inclusive and equitable space for all.

Strategic Planning

Our church is constantly evolving to better serve our members and the community. As part of our vision for the future, we’ve completed a study to help us envision our Dream Church. This study informed the development of our 2019-2024 Strategic Plan, which guides our church’s projects and growth.

Ceremonies and Celebrations

At First UU, we are honored to host a variety of ceremonies, including weddings, memorials, and other special events. We offer beautiful venues, including rooms of different sizes and a state-of-the-art commercial kitchen to accommodate your event needs.
