Founding and Early Vision

In 1868, a group of devoted believers came together with a vision to establish a Baptist church in downtown Dallas. With their determination and faith, they laid the foundation for what would become a powerful and lasting ministry. The Historic Sanctuary, built in 1890, served as the church’s primary worship center for more than a century, welcoming generations of believers to encounter God through powerful preaching and worship.

Preserving the Past, Embracing the Future

In 2013, First Baptist Dallas underwent a major renovation of its Historic Sanctuary, preserving it as a secondary worship center and an iconic landmark in downtown Dallas. This renovation was a tribute to the church’s rich history, while also creating a space for new generations of believers to gather. Today, the church continues to honor its past while embracing the future with excitement and anticipation for the work still to be done.

Influential Leadership Through the Years

Throughout its history, First Baptist Dallas has been led by powerful pastors, including George W. Truett and W.A. Criswell. Under their leadership, the church flourished, growing into a cornerstone of the Christian community in Dallas. Their steadfast commitment to preaching the truth of God’s Word left a lasting impact, shaping the church’s mission and vision for future generations.

In addition, our Discipleship University offers two semesters of classes each year, providing practical and in-depth teaching for those who want to dive deeper into Scripture and strengthen their walk with God.
