About Billy Bob’s Texas
Billy Bob’s Texas is a legendary venue located in the heart of Fort Worth. Originally built in 1910, it was initially an open-air barn used to house prize cattle for the Fort Worth Stock Show. Over the years, it has transformed into an iconic destination, steeped in history and Texas culture.
The History Behind the Building
In 1936, as part of the Texas Centennial Project, the building was enclosed and a tower was added above the main entrance. It originally contained livestock stalls and an auction ring, now known as the Bull Riding arena. The building’s transformation continued through the decades, serving as an airplane factory during WWII and later as a department store in the 1950s. At one point, stock boys wore roller skates to keep up with the massive space.
Billy Bob’s Texas Opens in 1981
On April 1, 1981, Billy Bob’s Texas officially opened, becoming a major entertainment center featuring over 100,000 square feet of space. With 30+ bar stations, a Texas-sized dance floor, and country music’s biggest stars, it quickly earned the title of “The World’s Largest Honky Tonk.” Billy Bob’s offered fun-filled entertainment for all ages, and still does to this day.
