Wee Companions is San Diego’s only dedicated small animal rescue, serving the community for over 25 years. Specializing in guinea pigs, chinchillas, rats, mice, rabbits, and hamsters, our mission is simple: to rescue, rehabilitate, and find permanent, loving homes for small animals in need. We are driven by our love for these creatures and work tirelessly to make sure they receive the best care possible throughout their journey with us.

Our Commitment to Rescue

At Wee Companions, our focus is on rescuing small animals that have been abandoned, relinquished, or surrendered to shelters. Whether these animals come from homes, rescue groups, or public shelters, we ensure that they are given the care, comfort, and attention they need. Regardless of an animal’s age, temperament, or health status, we welcome them into our rescue, giving them a safe place to thrive.

Providing Veterinary Care and Socialization

Once animals arrive at Wee Companions, they receive comprehensive veterinary care and any necessary medical treatment. Our goal is not just to rescue them, but to ensure they are healthy and socialized, ready to enter their forever homes. Whether it’s a few weeks of recovery or an extended stay with additional rehabilitation, we ensure each animal is given the time they need to adjust and heal, both physically and emotionally.

Finding Forever Homes

One of our core beliefs is that every small animal deserves a loving home. Once they are ready, we work hard to match them with the perfect family. We strive to place each animal in an environment that suits their unique needs and characteristics. Whether it’s a first-time pet owner or someone experienced in caring for small animals, we ensure that adopters are fully prepared to care for their new pet with proper training and resources.

Sanctuary for Those in Need

Not all animals are able to be adopted, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t deserving of love and care. Some animals who are older, ill, or have special needs are placed in our Sanctuary Program. These animals are cared for in our Foster Care Network, where they live out their days in a loving and comfortable environment. This ensures that even those who are not adoptable can still live in comfort for the remainder of their lives.

Educational Outreach and Advocacy

Wee Companions is deeply committed to educating the public about small animal care, from proper feeding to understanding their specific needs. We offer education to prospective pet owners, foster parents, and even schoolchildren, teaching them how to care for these animals responsibly. Our goal is to empower individuals to make informed decisions, preventing issues like overpopulation and the abandonment of small animals. We also focus on teaching families how to prevent unwanted litters, so we can reduce the number of animals in need of rescue.
