About Us – Temple Emanu-El
Temple Emanu-El is proud to be a community built on meaningful connections, mutual responsibility, and inclusivity. As one of the oldest Jewish congregations in North Texas, founded in 1872, our mission remains the same—providing a welcoming space where individuals and families from all backgrounds can grow in faith and spirituality.
Our History
Founded in 1872 as the first Jewish congregation in North Texas, Temple Emanu-El’s history has evolved alongside the growth of Dallas itself. Over the years, our congregation has moved to several locations, with our current home situated at the corner of Hillcrest and Northwest Highway since 1957. In 2016, we completed a $38 million expansion and renovation, reimagining our space to foster connection with one another, nature, and God. The updated design reflects our commitment to creating an open and interactive space for worship, study, and community engagement.
Our Community
With more than 2,500 families, Temple Emanu-El is a vibrant and diverse congregation. We welcome people from all walks of life, helping them find their Jewish path through prayer, music, education, and community. Whether you’re new to the Jewish faith or have grown up with it, we offer a supportive environment where you can nurture your connection to your faith and heritage.
Who We Are
At Temple Emanu-El, our doors are always open. We believe in supporting each person as they are, regardless of their background or experiences. We embrace the diversity of our members, recognizing that there are many paths to Jewish identity. Whether you’ve been Jewish all your life, converted as an adult, created an interfaith family, or are facing personal struggles, you are an important part of our community. No matter where you are on your journey, we are here to support and care for you.
