About St. Brendan Church
St. Brendan Parish is a vibrant and welcoming community, built upon faith, committed to spiritual growth, and dedicated to living out the richness of the Catholic tradition. We focus on worship, education, service, and outreach, sharing our time, talents, and resources to support our church, school, and the broader community. As a member of our parish family, you will find a prayerful and inspiring liturgy, opportunities for spiritual growth, active social ministry, and a warm community where you can develop meaningful, lasting friendships.
Our Patron Saint: St. Brendan the Navigator
Our parish is named after St. Brendan the Navigator, who is known for his adventurous spirit and deep faith. Legend tells that St. Brendan once prayed, “Lord, help me, for your sea is so big and my boat is so small.” Just as St. Brendan journeyed through vast and unknown seas, we offer you companionship on your own life journey, so that the sea will not seem so big to you. We invite you to join us in navigating life together, with faith as our guiding compass.
Living as a Family in Christ
The essence of the Catholic faith lies in community. The Acts of the Apostles (2:42-47) describes the early Christian community as a group of believers who lived, shared, and prayed together. At St. Brendan, we embrace this model of community, understanding that we are saved not as individuals alone but as a family in Christ. We believe in mutual responsibility and support, coming together to serve, pray, and strengthen one another in faith. Each week, we gather for Eucharist, celebrating the unity of the Church and the grace that binds us together.
Celebrating Community Together
One of the defining aspects of our faith is the emphasis on community. At St. Brendan, we celebrate this community through regular worship, social activities, and shared experiences. We invite you to join in our many celebrations and events, where we come together to praise and give thanks to God for the gifts we receive. As we share in the joy of one another’s company, we experience the strength and support of our Catholic family.
The Role of the Laity in Transforming the Earth
As Christians, we believe that we are called to continue the mission of Christ on earth. In Luke 4:16-21, Jesus proclaims that He has come to bring good news to the poor, proclaim liberty to the captives, restore sight to the blind, and free the oppressed. This mission extends to all baptized Christians. We, too, are called to act as Christ did, bringing about social justice and transforming the world through our actions. The work of social justice involves not just charity but a commitment to fairness and equality, ensuring that everyone’s needs are met with dignity and respect.
Acting on Our Baptismal Call to Social Justice
At St. Brendan, we believe that social justice is a crucial part of our Christian vocation. As baptized priests, prophets, and kings, our mission is to bring about a just social order, working to eliminate inequality and injustice. We believe that the resources of the world—such as food, shelter, and healthcare—are gifts from God, meant to be shared. Unfortunately, human systems often create disparities, with some having more than enough and others lacking basic needs. At St. Brendan, we encourage parishioners to engage in social justice initiatives both locally and globally, announcing the Lord’s mercy to the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed.
