Description
Welcome to Carriqui
Nestled in the historic Pearl District, Carriqui carries with it a deep legacy. The building where we are housed has been a part of the neighborhood since the 1890s when Boehler’s Liberty Saloon was the gathering place for the Pearl Brewery’s workers. This beloved space weathered many changes throughout the years, becoming a cornerstone for the community.
Our Commitment to Sincere Hospitality
We strive to deliver a unique hospitality experience grounded in warmth, sincerity, and authenticity. As part of the Pearl District’s rich history, we aim to create an inviting and comfortable space where everyone feels at home. Whether you’re a local resident or visiting from out of town, we aim to provide you with the same welcoming atmosphere that this building has been known for.
Food and Drink of South Texas
At Carriqui, our culinary team, led by Chef Jaime Gonzalez, crafts dishes that celebrate the heart and soul of South Texas cuisine. We pride ourselves on offering a menu that mixes traditional flavors with modern interpretations, drawing from the rich culinary heritage of the region.
Hill Country Forged Pit House: BBQ Like No Other
If there’s one thing Texans take seriously, it’s BBQ. At Carriqui, we go the extra mile to deliver a BBQ experience you won’t find anywhere else. Our custom-made pits, created by Mill Scale Metal Works in Lockhart, Texas, are fueled by regional woods like oak, pecan, and mesquite. These pits are essential to our slow-cooked BBQ process, where we smoke meats like brisket, carbrito, barbacoa, and achiote chicken to perfection.
A Bar with 130 Years of History
When we took over the historic building in 2014, we knew we had to honor the past. The original wooden bar, which had stood the test of time, was restored and became a focal point of our space. We even added a replica addition to create a central bar that guests can gather around. With some care and elbow grease, we’ve ensured that this iconic piece of the past can continue to serve for another 130 years.
Local Flavor: Showcasing Our Roots
One of the best parts of creating Carriqui’s new chapter was the opportunity to showcase the rich culture and history of San Antonio. Throughout the restaurant, you’ll notice historic photographs, which were preserved from when the building was first acquired. These photos provide a glimpse into the past, honoring the heritage of the Pearl District and its community.
We’re also proud to display artwork from local artists who call this neighborhood home, including Ethel, Lloyd, and Richard. Their work helps to tell the story of this area’s vibrant culture. We also use handmade plates created by Marcela, a talented artist from Mexico, which showcase the flora and fauna of South Texas. Our statement serving ware, created by Linda Perez, a long-time local ceramicist, adds to the authenticity of the experience.
A Place to Gather, Connect, and Enjoy
At Carriqui, we strive to create a space where people can gather, connect, and enjoy the good things in life. Whether you’re here for a casual meal with friends, a special celebration, or simply to enjoy a drink at the bar, we welcome you with open arms. Our warm and inviting atmosphere, combined with our rich history and focus on South Texas cuisine, makes Carriqui the perfect spot to create lasting memories.
