Over the past 14 years, Artelexia has experienced remarkable growth, expanding our mission of sharing the vibrant culture of Mexico with the world. Our journey began with a passion for Mexican culture, and we have since fostered a dedicated community of individuals who believe in and support our vision.

From Farmers’ Market to Brick-and-Mortar

Artelexia started with humble beginnings at the La Jolla Farmers’ Market, where founder Elexia began selling handcrafted goods and foods from Mexico. Over time, we transitioned into our first brick-and-mortar location in Little Italy, before finding a permanent home in the eclectic North Park neighborhood of San Diego. Today, Artelexia stands as a dazzling intersection of culture, art, and food.

A Curated Selection of Mexican Art & Gifts

Our shop is known for its kaleidoscopic décor, stunning murals, and a carefully curated collection of Mexican folk art, home décor, and gourmet foods. Over the years, we’ve expanded our offerings to include books, stationery, jewelry, and a wide array of accessories that draw inspiration from Mexican culture and iconography.

Supporting Local and Latinx Entrepreneurs

We are intentional about the artisans and vendors we showcase. At Artelexia, we strive to promote small, women-owned, and Latinx-owned businesses. This commitment has allowed Artelexia to become a platform for Latinx artists and entrepreneurs who celebrate their culture and identity through creative means.

While Artelexia has a strong physical presence in San Diego, we’ve also grown our online and social media platforms. With our expanding digital presence, we’re able to share our love for Mexico with a broader audience. No matter where you are, Artelexia brings the essence of Mexican culture to you.

The Story Behind Our Murals

In 2017, we had the privilege of partnering with local illustrator and muralist Channin Fulton to create murals that reflect the positive, colorful, and self-empowering message of Artelexia. The “You Are Radiant” and “Love Yourself” murals are an invitation for all people to interact with and experience the beautiful culture of Mexico while celebrating personal empowerment and self-love.
