About First Christian Church
Founded in 1952, First Christian Church (FCC) has grown steadily in its mission to spread the Gospel and provide a place of worship and fellowship for the Phoenix community. Originally located in central Phoenix, FCC moved to its current location in north-central Phoenix due to the rapid expansion of its congregation. As the church continued to flourish, there was a need for a new and larger worship center to accommodate the growing membership.
In 1949, the Southwest Christian Seminary in Phoenix had commissioned the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright to design a Classical University. While the university was never built, the architectural plans were still available. In 1971, the leadership of FCC sought permission from Frank Lloyd Wright’s widow to use these plans for their new worship center. Construction began, and in 1973, the church officially moved into the new building. This stunning structure has been recognized as one of the “ten best church buildings ever built in America” by Harold Wagoner, former Dean of the Church Architects Guild of America.
About God
We believe that God is the Creator and Sustainer of the universe. He exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit. These three persons are distinct, yet fully and equally God. This doctrine of the Trinity is central to our faith and guides our understanding of God’s nature and His work in the world.
About Jesus Christ
Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, co-equal with the Father. He was sent to earth as God incarnate to redeem humanity from sin. Jesus lived a perfect, sinless life, fulfilling God’s law and providing the ultimate sacrifice for our sins by dying on the cross. His death was not a mere tragedy, but the fulfillment of God’s redemptive plan for the world.
About the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is fully God, co-equal with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit’s role is to convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment. He indwells believers, empowering them to live according to God’s will, to understand spiritual truth, and to bear fruit for the Kingdom of God.
About Salvation
Salvation is a gracious gift from God, made possible through the sacrificial death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. We believe that all people are born with a sinful nature and are separated from God. The only way to be reconciled to God is through faith in Jesus Christ, trusting in His finished work on the cross for the forgiveness of our sins.
About Eternity
We believe that eternity is real, and every person will spend eternity either in Heaven or in Hell. Heaven is the eternal dwelling place of God, where those who have trusted in Christ will experience perfect joy, peace, and fellowship with God. Hell is a place of eternal separation from God, reserved for those who reject His offer of salvation.
About Baptism
We believe that baptism is an important act of obedience to God. Baptism symbolizes the believer’s identification with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. At FCC, we practice immersion as the mode of baptism, as it best represents the symbolism of dying to the old self and being raised to new life in Christ.
Our Mission and Purpose
First Christian Church is a community of believers dedicated to following Christ, sharing His love, and making disciples. We believe that through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can be agents of change in the world, bringing the message of salvation to all people. Our mission is to glorify God in all we do, to grow in our faith, and to serve others in His name.
