About Us – All Souls
Located on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, All Souls is a Unitarian Universalist congregation committed to fostering love, justice, and compassion. We are a community that is not bound by creed, but by shared values and a dedication to living a life of meaning and purpose. Whether you’re attending our Sunday services with world-class music and gifted speakers, exploring our spiritual and educational programs for all ages, or engaging in our community service projects, you’ll find a place for yourself at All Souls.
Our Core Principles
At All Souls, we strive to affirm and promote the following principles:
1: We believe in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.
2: We are committed to justice, equity, and compassion in human relations.
3: We encourage the acceptance of one another and spiritual growth within our congregation.
4: We support a free and responsible search for truth and meaning.
5: We honor the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process both within our congregations and in society at large.
6: We work towards the goal of a world community with peace, liberty, and justice for all.
7: We respect the interdependent web of all existence, of which we are a part.
Our Values
We aim to gather people with diverse perspectives to engage with issues that challenge us to grow and think critically. We demonstrate the vitality of faith in our lives, showing how faith can deeply enrich us. We actively promote Unitarian Universalism, working to spread its message locally, nationally, and globally. We serve our neighbors and partner with others to meet the needs of our community and beyond.
Our actions are focused on creating a just and compassionate world, where equity and compassion are at the forefront.
The Living Tradition We Share
We recognize the direct experience of mystery and wonder, found in all cultures, which renews our spirit and connects us to life’s essential forces. We are inspired by the words and actions of people who challenge us to confront injustice with love, compassion, and transformative power. The wisdom of world religions guides us in our ethical and spiritual lives. We draw from Jewish and Christian teachings, which call us to love our neighbors as ourselves in response to God’s love. We rely on humanist teachings, which counsel us to heed the guidance of reason and science, while warning against false ideologies. We embrace spiritual teachings of earth-centered traditions, celebrating the sacredness of nature and living in harmony with the earth’s rhythms.
